Special Olympics – part 3

“Life shrinks or expands in proportion to one’s courage.”
Anaïs Nin
Sparta, Greece.
The atmosphere out at the Sparta Bowling Centre was electric, buzzing and filled with friendship. A DJ pumped out tunes which whipped the spectators into a pre-game frenzy. To get a seat was a privilege, it was basically standing room only. The athletes arrived and were welcomed by thundering cheers. It was the doubles event and Matt had teamed up with Lynn from Tasmania.
And let me tell you, these guys can bowl! Strike. Spare. Strike. Spare. High fives for all, even if you were in the competing team. Happiness was all around. Each team bowled 3 games each and all competitors bowled great, showing fantastic talent, sportsmanship and courage.
To see my brother stand on the podium, accepting his ribbon for 6th place, a big wave to the crowd, more cheering, more pride; it was the highlight of my life.
