‘My Heart is Singing’

Well folks, I’m back in Stockholm! After an absolutely brilliant trip to Sydney, I’ve finally recovered from jet lag and am back in business. Back to work, back to a beautiful autumn and back to regular life. TSH survived 2.5 weeks taking care of the kids and actually really enjoyed his time with them but of course, he was incredibly happy when I walked in the door.

Which brings be back to the reason for my dash to Sydney, which all started back in early July. It’s a fun little story I have been dying to write about:

It was back in the Golden Days of having the super nanny around. We took the opportunity to book a date night, as she could take care of the kids. All night. Bliss! July is a busy month for our family, marking many celebrations. The Flash, Bubba and myself all have our birthdays plus it’s also our wedding anniversary. So, to celebrate our anniversary and my 38th birthday, we decided to have a fantastic night out, starting off with pre-dinner drinks at one of my favourite Stockholm sky bars Gondolen and then off to a new restaurant called The Flying Elk on Gamla Stan (the old town.)

We dolled ourselves up, left the kids in the capable hands of The Supper Nanny and hit the town. I know I’ve mentioned Gondolen before, it’s on our side of town and there is some retro glamorous feel that I just love about it.  The bar section is high above the Stockholm skyline and you can see all the ferries and boats twinkling at night. We arrived early and were lucky enough to get a seat in the lounge area. I tried to offer ordering the pre-dinner drinks but with TSH being the gentleman he is, he wouldn’t let me so I took a seat whilst he got two sparkling glasses of champagne. I was pretty excited to be out and about and at a sky bar and wearing clothes that didn’t have food on them. I put a present on the table and when TSH came back I told him that it was an anniversary present for the both of us, but he was allowed to open it now. He was shocked and excited as he hadn’t been expecting anything extra.

Placing the champagne on the table beside us, he pulled off the big ribbon and ripped open the polka dot paper. His eyes opened as big as I have ever seen them and his mouth dropped. A huge smile exploded across his entire face and all he said was, “ARE YOU FUCKING SERIOUS?” I laughed and laughed and said that I was totally serious. The present was a bundle of small pyjamas made out of the softest cotton, the size of a newborn. He understood immediately, we were having another baby! I told him I had just found out and that I was 5 weeks pregnant with a non-IVF naturally conceived, total fucking ‘surprise’ baby. He started to cry. He couldn’t believe what I was saying and just sat there staring at me, giggling and crying with a look of complete astonishment. This scene continued for the longest of times, us both crying and laughing and shaking our heads. After everything that we had been through. “Oh honey” he said, “you have made me one happy man. I couldn’t be happier. You amaze me, I love you.” As we collected our things, about to make our way out to the restaurant, he grabbed me, kissed me and said, ‘my heart is singing.’

    • It’s pretty amazing. I still cannot believe it but have a bump to prove it! It’s pretty much the craziest thing that has even happened to us.

      • It’s the fact that you were (at last!) stress-free from fertility issues after having your baby. Really, it has happened to a lot of people after they decided to adopt or to quit trying.

Whatever made it happen… bravo for both of you! 🙂 🙂
